Province 1 govt unhappy with centre for Covid-19 response leader’s transfer

Biratnagar, June 5

The Province 1 government has expressed its concerns over the recent transfer of Dr Sangita Mishra, the chief of Koshi Hospital in Biratnagar, the health facility that has been treating most Covid-19 patients of the province.

Federal Minister for Health and Population, Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal, had transferred her to Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital in Kathmandu.

“When our response was moving ahead at speed, the (leading) staffer has been transferred,” Provincial Minister for Social Development, Jeevan Ghimire, says, “The new person may not maintain her speed.”

Other doctors in the hospital are also not satisfied. “Notwithstanding her role in the past, what she did during this crisis is commendable,” one of them says, “It is not practical to transfer her as the number of cases is increasing here.”

Mishra herself is also not satisfied the transfer as she has considered it a punishment. However, she maintains, “I am just a normal employee of the government. I will follow the order.”

Dr Chuman Lal Das of Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital will replace Mishra.
