Kathmandu, September 7
Citing recent floods and landslides in various parts of the country, the government decided not to organise any formal programme on the occasion of Civil Service Day this year. However, it has announced a holiday for government staff for today.
Earlier, the government would organise a morning rally and a formal function on Bhadra 22 of every year according to the Nepali calendar.
Spokesperson at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Hari Prasad Panthi, says, “We did not organise any function as last years so that we could serve flood victims.”
“We have agreed not to take the leave as well, but the holiday was already marked in the calendar.”
The government would also award some civil servants on the occasion. With the decision not to do any formal programme, the awards have also become uncertain.
However, the government has already published the list of 40 staff to be awarded.
