Kathmandu, June 11

The government has rejected the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal’s proposal that local level elections be put off in at least Province 2.

Earlier, the party had demanded to put off the entire polls in provinces 1, 2, 5 and 7, which the government had rejected yesterday.

During a meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister this morning in a negotiation bid, the RJPN revised its demand and restricted it to eight districts of Province 2 only, but the ruling parties did not accept that either.

“The meeting has ended inconclusively,” a leader involved in the negotiation informed.

It has been learned that the ruling parties rejected the proposal to defer the polls as they were not convinced of the RJPN’s participation even after the postponement.

On the other hand, they said the constitution amendment could not be assured as the main opposition CPN-UMl was still against the proposal.

Meanwhile, they also clarified that the number of local levels could not be increased immediately as a case related to the issue was sub-judice at the Supreme Court currently.
