Bibaha Panchami: Public holiday in Province 2 on Wednesday

The Province 2 government has announced a public holiday in the province on Wednesday this week on the occasion of the annual Bibaha Panchami (also spelt Vivah Panchami) festival.

The annual Hindu festival is marked in Nepal and India commemmorating the wedding of Ram and Sita, the protagonists in the myth of Ramayan, a Holy scripture. Following decades-old tradition, a procession comes to Janakpurdham, the capital of Province 2 and the birthplace of Sita, from Ayodhya of India, the birthplace of Ram.

Meanwhile, the Janakpur sub-metropolitan city has decided to close schools in the city area for three days from Tuesday to Thursday on the occasion, informs Mehilal Yadav, the chief of the city government’s Education, Youth and Sports Section.
