Ethnic groups announce protest against govt decision to trim holiday list

NEFIN President Jagat Baram

Kathmandu, April 9

The Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN), which claims to be the umbrella oganisation of all indigenous communities in the country, has announced a protest programme against the government decision to trim holiday list in the annual calendar.

Organising a press conference in Kathmandu today, the Federation demanded that the government withdraw the decision.

The organisation’s President Jagat Baram says the government’s decision to cancel holidays was wrong as the holidays were achieved after a great struggle.

As per the protest announced today, the Federation will submit memorandum to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and chief ministers of all provinces and stage demonstrations in various places of the country.

Meanwhile, the organisation demanded that the government would stop attack on cultural heritage sites in the name of road extension, warning a stern protest if the demand was not heeded.
