Public holiday today in Barpak to commemorate Gorkha Earthquake 2015

On the occasion of the commemoration day of the ‘Gorkha Earthquake’ which passed through the centre of Barpak of Gorkha, a public holiday has been given in Barpak Sulikot Rural Municipality today.

Bishnu Prasad Bhatt, chairperson of the Rural Municipality, informed that a public holiday has been given in memory of those who lost their lives in the devastating earthquake of 7.8 Richter scale Gorkha Earthquake 2015. He said that according to the decision of the village executive meeting held on Tuesday, a public holiday has been given in the municipality.

On that occasion, a special tribute programme was organised today at the playground of Himalaya Secondary School in Barpak. A total of 8,979 people died in the Gorkha earthquake in the whole country and 471 people died in Gorkha district alone.

Among them, 72 people lost their lives in Barpak alone. A total of 22,309 people were injured in the earthquake. The earthquake severely affected 14 districts including Gorkha and damaged 31 districts.
