Kathmandu, August 4
Five persons have died after being buried in different landslides in Baglung district on Friday. Four of them are members of a single family.
Maniman Chhantyal (68), his wife Nandakali (63), their daughter-in-law Bindu (22) and daughter Geeta (18) died after their house in Bahungaun, Nishikhola-2 was buried in a landslide triggered by incessant rainfall, say police.
DSP Anil Khadka says a 70-year-old woman has gone missing after another landslide in Huldi, Nishikhola-1. She has been identified as Khagisara Sinjali, wife of Jhogendra Bahadur.
Meanwhile, 55-year-old Om Prakash Kami died after his house was buried in Pakhapani, Dhorpatan Municipality of the district.
Neighbours rescued other members of Kami family to safety. Six houses have been destroyed by the landslide in Pakhapani.
Locals have informed police that a flood has caused damages in the Nishikhola-II Hydropower Project.
