UML defeats Congress-Maoist alliance in Hetaunda

The CPN-UML has won the positions of mayor and deputy mayor of Hetaunda Sub-Metropolitan City in Makawanpur District.

Hari Bahadur Mahat and Mina Lama have been elected as mayor and deputy mayor respectively by garnering 23,124 and 23,437 votes.

Mahat and Lama respectively defeated Ananda Parajuli of Nepali Congress and Balaram Bal of CPN-Maoist Centre.

The NC and the CPN-MC had formed an alliance against the UML in the city.

Mahat was ahead of his closest rival Parajuli with a difference of 615 votes as the counting concluded whereas Lama has received around 6,000 votes more than Bal.

Hetaunda is the home city of Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Kamal Thapa, but the RPP was restricted to a humiliating third position in the polls.
