Kathmandu, May 13
The local government in Lalitpur city has announced a public holiday on Monday on the occasion of the 99th birthday of culture expert Satya Mohan Joshi.
Joshi was born and lives in the city. Earlier, the Lalitpur Metropolitan City had decided to provide vehicle and security to him.
The city government says it announced the holiday as a symbol of respect to him.
Considering the centenarian a living heritage, the city government is organising various functions to mark his birthday today.
It will honour all centenarians of the city on the occasion.
The local government says it will continue the celebrations throughout this year. Before his 100th birthday next year, the city will translate his books and takes initiatives to publish a postal stamp.
Likewise, the city says it will take a banner with Joshi’s portrait to the top of Mount Everest, and facilitate Joshi’s trip to Gosainkunda Lake in Rasuwa.
