Nepal squad for AFC U-23 Qualifiers flying to UAE Thursday

Kathmandu, July 12

Sports officials on Wednesday saw off the Nepal U-23 football team that will leave for the United Arab Emirates on Thursday to participate in the AFC U-23 Championship Qualifiers.

National Sports Council Member-Secretary Keshav Kumar Bista and All Nepal Football Association President Narendra Shrestha among others handed over the national flag to the team at a function held at the ANFA Complex today.

Speaking on the occasion, Bista said the government would award the players if they could won the Qualifiers.

In a preparatory friendly match played with the Bangladesh U-23 team yesterday, the Nepal team had achieved a 1-0 win.

Top two teams of the Qualifiers will make to the AFC U-23 Championship to be held in China next year.

In the Qualifiers, Nepal are in Group D along with the hosts UAE, Uzbekistan and Lebanon. Nepal will play the first match against the hosts on Saturday.

 

They will face Uzbekistan on Monday and Lebanon on Wednesday next week.
