Kathmandu, August 13

The Nepal government on Monday said it would regulate relief operations in the wake of recent floods and landslides through a one-door system and bar other organisations including national and international NGOs from running the campaigns on their own.

A meeting of the Central Natural Disaster Rescue Committee headed by Minister for Home Affairs Janardan Sharma today made the decision.

The meeting also assigned Joint-Secretary Kedar Neupane as coordinator of the Relief Collection Coordination Committee, which will coordinate the entire operation.

Now, those willing to provide cash support needs to deposit their donations at the Prime Minister’s Central Disaster Relief Fun. whereas other goods should be collected at godowns of Nepal Food Corporation or the Tribhuvan International Airport.

At the district level, they have to coordinate with the District Administration Office.

Meanwhile, the meeting directed concerned authorities to collect details of the losses within next 10 days.

“Please prepare a clear implementable strategy to distribute compensation on the basis of details of losses.”

Top government officials including secretaries of concerned ministries and chiefs of security bodies were present at the meeting.
