Nepal fail to qualify for U-19 Cricket World Cup

Kathmandu, July 25

Nepal have failed to qualify for the U-19 Cricket World Cup as they faced a defeat from Afghanistan in the last match of the qualifiers played in Singapore on Tuesday.

Afghanistan defeated Nepal by 96 runs while Nepal were chasing the 196-run target posted against them. Nepal were all out after securing 99 runs in 40.6 overs.

With the win, Afghanistan secured their participation in the World Cup to be held in New Zealand next year.

For Nepal, Dipendra Singh Airee made the highest of 48 runs from 81 balls. He also partnered up with Pawan Sarraf to make a half century.

Other batsmen could not give satisfactory scores.

The winning team of the group comprising four would qualify for the World Cup. Nepal ended second.

Malaysia and Singapore were other teams in the group. Earlier, Nepal had defeated both of them, but they were not sufficient to secure the World Cup berth.
