The groups and fixtures for the ICC T20 World Cup Cricket, which will be jointly held in India and Sri Lanka in the upcoming February–March, have been made public.
The group division and match schedule were announced during an event held in Mumbai, India, on Tuesday. According to the divided groups, the Nepali cricket team has been placed in a tough group.
Nepal is in Group ‘C’ alongside two-time world champions England and West Indies, as well as Bangladesh and Italy. Nepal will play its first match against England on February 8. The match will take place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Likewise, Nepal will play against Italy on February 12, West Indies on February 15, and Bangladesh on February 17. These matches will also be held in Mumbai.
This will be Nepal’s first opportunity to play against England in international cricket. Previously, Nepal has played in various tournaments against teams such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and South Africa.
In the previous edition of the T20 World Cup, Nepal and South Africa were at the same group. At that time, Nepal had narrowly lost to South Africa by just 1 run.
In the other World Cup groups, India, Pakistan, Netherlands, Namibia, and the USA are in Group A, while Australia, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Ireland, and Oman are in Group B.
Group D consists of South Africa, New Zealand, Afghanistan, UAE, and Canada.
The T20 World Cup will be held from February 7 to March 8.
