Kathmandu, August 1

Resident doctors at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital have decided not to attend to any patient at the outpatient department from Wednesday in solidarity with Dr Govinda KC, who has been fasting unto death demanding various reforms in Nepal’s medical education sector.

Dr KC has been staging his strike at the TUTH for last nine days.

The Nepal Resident Doctors’ Association has also decided to boycott all teaching learning activities at the Institute of Medicine protesting the government apathy to demands of Dr KC.

The Association’s President Dr Kashyap Shrestha says, “It has already been nine days that Dr KC is on the indefinite hunger strike. But, the state is not serious.”

“We have been forced to take this decision as Dr KC’s health is deteriorating.”

It is the senior orthopaedic surgeon’s 11th fast-unto-death over past six years. The resident doctors had been extending solidarity earlier as well.
