Baitadi, July 5
The Dipayal High Court has ordered newly elected mayor of Dasharath Chand Municipality in Baitadi district, Narendra Singh Thapa, not to assume office for now.
The Mahendranagar-based bench of judge Yagya Prasad Basyal handed down the interim order in response to a writ filed by Thapa’s closest rival, Pushkar Raj Joshi of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party.
As per the election results, Thapa of Nepali Congress had received 62 votes more than Joshi.
But, the RPP has accused election officials of rigging the poll results and working in cahoots with the Nepali Congress to make Thapa victorious.
The RPP has announced it will not accept the announced results as the counting officials also counted ballots marked with fingerprints though the RPP representatives had expressed their discontent.
The party has demanded that the Court quash the poll results and recount the ballot papers.
