Kathmandu, November 16

Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana, who is currently under fire for his alleged involvement in activities amounting to corruption, must have felt some relief now.

At least five of the Supreme Court justices who had been refusing to hear cases have agreed to return to work from Tuesday following Chief Justice Rana’s call for talks on Monday.

Justices Tej Bahadur KC, Bam Kumar Shrestha, Kumar Regmi, Manoj Kumar Sharma and Kumar Chudal had decided not to participate in any protests organised by the justices on Monday evening. Accordingly, all of them except Chudal joined the hearing process at the apex court today.

Chudal has been assigned cases with another justice, Prakash Kumar Dhungana, who is still on strike.

Yet, the umbrella organisation of Nepali lawyers, the Nepal Bar Association, has continued the protests on Tuesday also. The lawyers are also in conversation with the justices who have been boycotting the hearing except that of habeas corpus cases for the past few weeks.
