Egg prices have reached a new record high after the Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers Association raised its farm-gate selling prices again. According to the new price list published by the association, which came into effect on Friday, the price of all egg varieties has been increased by Rs 15 per crate.
With the latest increase, farm-gate egg prices have reached their highest level ever. The association said the adjustment was necessary due to rising production costs and the need to maintain a balance between supply and market demand.
Under the price fixed on August 20, the farm-gate price of XL-sized eggs was Rs 590 per crate. It has now increased by Rs 15 to Rs 605. Similarly, the price of large eggs has risen from Rs 575 to Rs 590 per crate, while the price of medium-sized eggs has increased from Rs 535 to Rs 550.
The price of small eggs, however, remains unchanged. These are farm-gate prices. The consumer price has been set at Rs 25 per egg. Likewise, consumers will have to pay Rs 45 for two medium-sized eggs, or Rs 22.50 per egg. According to association secretary Madan Pokharel, the prices have been set nationwide based primarily on prices in Chitwan. The association has said that poultry farmers have been facing difficulties due to continued increases in the cost of chicken feed, medicines and transportation.
