Nepali Congress dissident faction to move court seeking halt to general convention process

Nepali Congress

Kathmandu, August 20

The dissident faction of the Nepali Congress has decided to move court seeking a halt to the party’s 15th General Convention process.

A meeting of senior leaders from the faction held at the residence of Dr Shashank Koirala in Maharajgunj on Thursday decided to file a petition seeking an immediate suspension of the convention process.

Min Bishwakarma, coordinator of the faction’s publicity committee, confirmed the decision.

“The meeting decided to file a petition in court as soon as possible, seeking a halt to the general convention. The petition will be registered by Friday,” Bishwakarma said.

The dissident faction argues that the party should not proceed with the convention process as a dispute over the party’s official status is set to be reheard by the court.

The party, however, has already moved ahead with preparations for the convention.

According to the latest decision of the Central Election Committee, the ward-level conventions are scheduled to be held on September 9.

The Nepali Congress has retained its earlier decision to hold its 15th General Convention in Kathmandu from October 2 to 5, while revising the schedule for conventions at lower levels.
