Kathmandu, November 15

A new round of efforts made by Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana to end the ongoing crisis at the Supreme Court has failed as the Nepal Bar Association, the umbrella organisation of Nepali lawyers, says it will not sit for talks unless Chief Justice Rana resigns.

For the past few weeks, the association has continued a demonstration inside the court premises demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana as he has been accused of partnering with the executive on various occasions during the premiership of KP Sharma Oli and Sher Bahadur Deuba. Justices have also been on strike except for habeas corpus cases.

But, Rana is adamant against the demand.

In this context, Rana issued a call for talks on Monday, saying he would want to discuss all the issues and seek a solution in a cordial manner.

But, the Bar Association President Chandeshwar Shrestha says the chief justice issued the call just to weaken the ongoing protests and his resignation is the first condition for talks.
