Design and display

 Samsung Galaxy A33 5G

Samsung Galaxy A33 5G has a glass front build accompanied by a plastic back and a plastic frame. The phone sports a similar design used in most Samsung smartphones these days. The front houses a tiny waterdrop notch which Samsung markets as “Infinity-U Display” and on the back is a camera module housed together with an LED flash. The phone weighs 186 grams and is 8.1mm thick. There is a side-mounted fingerprint sensor on the phone.

There is a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display on the phone with a refresh rate of 90Hz and a resolution of 1,080*2,400 pixels. The screen-to-body ratio is said to be around 83.7%. The display on the phone is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Samsung Galaxy A33 5G is also IP67 dust/water resistant certified (up to 1m for 30 mins).

Cameras

Samsung Galaxy A33 5G houses a quad-camera setup on the back while there is a single camera on the front. The 48MP, f/1.8 main camera on the back is housed together with 8MP, f/2.2, 123 degrees ultrawide, 5MP, f/2.4 macro and 2MP, f/2.4 depth sensor. An LED flash is also housed together on the camera panel. On the front, there is a 13MP. f/2.2 selfie shooter.

The main camera features optical image stabilisation (OIS) and phase-detection autofocus (PDAF) for faster and sharper images and videos.

In terms of video, Samsung Galaxy A33 5G can record videos up to 4K at 30fps. Meanwhile, the user can record 1080p videos up to 120fps, which can be really handy for slo-mo videos. The front camera can record videos in 1080p resolution only.

Performance and storage

Samsung Galaxy A33 5G runs on One UI 4.1 based on the latest Android 12. The phone is powered by an Octa-Core processor with Exynos 1280 5G, 5nm chipset. The graphics are handled by Mali-G68. This is a 5nm chipset for mid-range Samsung Galaxy phones. This should provide more stability and power efficiency on the phone.

The phone comes with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM memory coupled with 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. The phone also features a shared microSD card slot and the user can expand the storage using this feature.

Battery life, connectivity and price

Samsung Galaxy A33 5G features a massive 5,000mAH non-removable li-po battery. The phone supports 25W fast charging, making the charging process faster. This is a huge boost from its predecessor which only featured a 15W charger for the massive battery.

The connectivity option includes support of a 5G network, dual-band Wifi, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS and USB Type-C 2.0. The phone is also NFC enabled but this feature depends upon the region. The sensors on the phone include an accelerometer, fingerprint sensor, gyro sensor, geomagnetic sensor, hall sensor, light sensor and virtual proximity sensing.

The phone features a dual stereo speaker setup with Dolby Atmos and also has a 3.5mm headphone jack for audio connectivity.

The price of the Samsung Galaxy A33 5G is EUR 369 and when it arrives in Nepal, you can expect a price of around Rs 45,000 for the 6/128GB variant.

Verdict

Well, if the phone is released in the expected price range, it can be very upsetting to the users as there are only minimal upgrades from the Galaxy A32 which was priced at Rs 31,999 for 6/128GB. This phone offers a 5G network, a better and more power-efficient chipset, faster charging and can record videos in 4K resolution. Yet, it is not sure if these upgrades justify the massive increase in the price.

We are saying that also because the display on the phone, camera features, battery backup are almost identical. The Galaxy A32 even features a 64MP main camera sensor compared to the 48MP of Samsung Galaxy A33 5G. But if you are a Samsung fan and want to purchase a Samsung device no matter what, Galaxy A52s 5G or M52 5G should make more sense.
