Samsung Galaxy A05: One of the best budget smartphones is back with upgrades

The base model of the Samsung Galaxy A series for 2024, the Samsung Galaxy A05 has been officially released in Nepal. The smartphone was launched in September 2023 but made its way here to Nepal in January 2024. It is part of the A05 series which also includes Samsung Galaxy A05s. We might also see the A05e later as the year progresses.

The smartphone has been upgraded from its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy A04. It now has an upgraded chipset, display, charging and selfie camera.

The A series being one of the most popular smartphones in the budget and mid-range category in recent years, we can expect the smartphone to do quite well in the Nepali market at the price range.

Design and Display

On the design front, the Samsung Galaxy A05 carries design similarities to its predecessor the A04. On the back, it has a plastic body with numerous thin parallel lines. The glossy back reflects when light hits which makes it look premium. Unlike the A04 with a curved back, it has a flat back. It has a dual camera setup which has metal-like rings surrounding the lens. The lens is also made up of plastic and has a metal-like glossy finish.

On the front, it has a water drop notch housing the upgraded selfie camera. The bezels are thick as usual on the chin and a bit thin on the sides and top. The smartphone has a bit increased size than its predecessor the A04. It is also thinner than the A04.

The Samsung Galaxy A05 features a 6.7-inch PLS LCD display, providing an ample screen-to-body ratio of 82.1 per cent. It has a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels which offers about 262 ppi density. The screen’s 16M colour depth ensures vibrant and lifelike colour reproduction. The refresh rate however has not been disclosed.

Performance and Storage

The Samsung Galaxy A05 packs a Mediatek Helio G85 chipset built on a 12nm architecture. It is supported with an octa-core CPU setup consisting of two high-performance Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz and six efficient Cortex-A55 cores running at 1.8 GHz. The Mali-G52 MC2 GPU handles graphical tasks, providing a satisfactory gaming and visual experience. It runs on Android 13 operating system.

As for memory, the A05 is available in two RAM options of 4GB and 6GB which are paired with storage of 64GB and 128GB respectively. It also has a dedicated Micro SD card slot for external storage.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy A05 has a dual rear camera setup. It has a 50MP main camera with an F1.8 aperture for decent detailed shots. Accompanying it is a 2MP depth sensor with an F2.4 aperture for additional depth and focus. Being a budget smartphone it lacks optical image stabilization (OIS) but supports autofocus. It has digital zoom capabilities of up to 10x. Video recording reaches up to FHD resolution at 60fps and offers slow-motion capture at 120fps in HD.

On the front, the Samsung Galaxy A05 has an 8MP selfie camera with an F2.0 aperture. It clicks decent selfies and videos.

Battery and Others

The Samsung Galaxy A05 is powered by a 5,000mAh battery which can last throughout the day in decent usage. Charging is upgraded with 25W wired support for fast charging. Connectivity-wise, it features Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, offering compatibility across dual bands for internet access and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity for pairing with compatible devices.

On the network front, it supports LTE for mobile data connections and accommodates dual SIM cards, allowing users to manage two separate networks simultaneously. Audio output comes through a mono speaker and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It also incorporates essential sensors like the accelerometer, light sensor, and proximity sensor but lacks a fingerprint sensor.

The Samsung Galaxy A05 is official in Nepal at Rs 14,999 for the 4/64GB option and Rs 18,999 for the 6/128GB option.
