The Public Accounts Committee in Parliament on Wednesday has directed the Office of the Auditor General to draft and furnish an arrears settlement plan within next 15 days.

A meeting of the Committee held today also directed Auditor General Tanka Mani Sharma to settle 80 per cent of existing arrears within next six months.

The House panel told Sharma to set periodic targets and mobilise staff and other resources to achieve them on time.

PAC Chairman Dor Prasad Upadhyaya says the plan of action to be prepared by the OAG should target gradually reducing arrears every year.

Speaking at the meeting, Auditor General Sharma said regular monitoring was needed to manage the government accounting system.
