The government has Rs 483 billion in arrears as of mid-July 2021 as the amount increased by 15.46 per cent in the last fiscal year 2020/21 (mid-July 2020 to mid-July 2021).

The Office of the Auditor-General made the calculation after auditing all the government accounts of the last fiscal year. Accordingly, although the current fiscal year is ending this Friday, the data for this year will be available months later.

Auditor-General Tanka Mani Sharma submitted the report of the annual audit for the fiscal year 2020/21 to President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Wednesday. Find the summary of the report here.

The auditor-general provides various recommendations for the government to reduce the arrears amount and maintain financial discipline, but they are rarely implemented.
