Oli’s kidney transplant successful; hospital says transplanted kidney has begun functioning

Kathmandu, March 4

The doctors involved in Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s kidney transplantation on Wednesday say the surgery has been over, and the transplant is successful.

It took four hours to complete the surgery, according to Dr Arun Sayami at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.

A woman in her 20s, who happens to be Oli’s distant relative, had donated her kidney for the leader.

It is Oli’s second kidney transplantation. He had had his first kidney transplanted in 2007 at the Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, India. The kidney had stopped functioning properly for the past few months. Hence, he was undergoing dialysis regularly.
