Oli’s doctors feel helpless as PM continues defying their advice

Kathmandu, March 16

Despite being advised by his doctors that he should not engage in any meeting or events for the next three months to avoid any infection, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli participated in a video conference of the heads of governments of eight member states of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) on Sunday evening.

Though members of Oli’s advisory team have claimed that they advised Oli to participate in the talk as he expressed willpower to make it, the doctors involved in his transplant and treatment that followed have objected to the PM’s recent activities.

“He participated despite our warning. We had clearly told him that he should not get involved in such activities, he did not obey us,” one of the doctors says, adding it might be harmful to a person to get engaged in activities involving multiple people in the next six months irrespective of how cautious they are.

Oli even addressed the video conference twice yesterday, for 10 minutes in total. As he had had his kidney transplanted just 11 days ago, Oli’s voice did not sound clear. His chief political advisor, Bishnu Rimal, had to stop the prime minister once.

Earlier on Saturday, Oli had met senior leaders of his party in his official residence in Baluwatar.

Another member of the transplant team, hence, says he felt helpless before the PM as the doctors cannot do anything except advising him.
