Rabi Lamichhane to visit Beijing for high-level meetings

July 23, Kathmandu

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane is preparing to visit China. According to a high-ranking government source, a four-member RSP delegation led by Lamichhane is scheduled to travel to Beijing in the second week of August.

Although the names of all Chinese officials he will meet have not been disclosed, meetings with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and senior leaders of the Communist Party of China have been confirmed.

“The visit is being organised under the framework of party-to-party relations. Chairperson Lamichhane had actually received an invitation from China during the previous parliamentary term. This time, however, we expect more substantive discussions,” a senior government official told Onlinekhabar.

“There will be talks at a high level. The main agenda is to further deepen and strengthen Nepal–China relations,” the official said.

The visit is expected to last five days. The identities of the other members of the delegation have not yet been made public.

No government representatives will be part of the delegation.

According to RSP sources, the Beijing visit will be similar in nature to Lamichhane’s previous visit to New Delhi, where he held a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
