Kathmandu, June 6

The main opposition leader and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday has accused the government of blocking retiring Chief Justice Sushila Karki from preparing her pension papers.

Addressing the Parliament meeting this afternoon, Oli said the Ministry of Finance blocked her from preparing the documents claiming she faced the impeachment motion at the House.

The impeachment motion filed by lawmakers of ruling parties, however, has already been withdrawn.

Therefore, Oli questioned how the Ministry was informed about the registration of the motion, but not the withdrawal.

He claimed the Ministry’s behaviour was a humiliation of the chief of judiciary.

Ministry denies charge

Meanwhile, the Ministry said Oli’s charge was a lie.

“This is false,” the MoF spokesperson Ram Sharan Pudasaini told Onlinekhabar, “This is not a concern of the Ministry of Finance. The Pension Management Office looks after it.”

On Bharatpur vote counting

He also accused ruling parties of planning and implementing the tearing of ballot papers in Bharatpur of Chitwan district.

He flayed the Election Commission’s decision to redo polling in Bharatpur-19 claiming the incident was not a seizure of vote counting venue, which could require the repolling.

He said Chief Returning Officer of the city, Kabi Prasad Neupane, had prejudices against the main opposition party as his statements were self-contradictory.

Oli was of the view that the CPN-Maoist Centre disrespected the people’s verdict by tearing the ballot papers.

The opposition leader even warned that such activities could lead the country to autocracy.

He also added that the Commission’s decision would promote anarchy in the electoral system as those fearing to lose the elections could tend to tear ballot papers while vote counting would be underway.

Oli defended charges labelled against his party that it was an anti-Madhesh party claiming it was a nationalist force and included all regions, castes and communities.

Criticism of government

Towards the end of his speech, Oli critivised Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government of not providing reconstruction support to survivors of 2015 earthquake and politicising the National Reconstruction Authority.

He also said the government could not move with the conclusion of peace process, rather the Truth and Reconciliation Commission has been stuck in the internal dispute.

Oli also claimed that the impressive economic growth achieved by the government was based on the policies and programmes brought by his government.
