Kathmandu, July 30

Eight police officials allegedly involved in destroying evidence and inflicting torture on those detained in connection with the notorious 2018 Nirmala Pant rape and murder case have been acquitted.

Those receiving the clean chit today are SP Dilli Raj Bista, the then chief of the District Police Office, and seven others, namely DSPs Angur GC and Gyan Bahadur Seti, Inspectors Ekindra Khadka and Jagadish Bhatta, SIs Hari Singh Dhami and Ram Singh Dhami, and Head Constable Chandani Saud.

A bench of District Judge Gopal Prasad Bastola acquitted them, informs the court staffer Yadu Nath Sharma.

After the charge sheet was filed, the police officers were suspended from their job. However, now onwards, everyone except Bista can join back their office. Bista, however, was fired.
