Nepali Congress: Deuba forms 10 departments amid Paudel camp’s objection

Kathmandu, August 10

Amid objections from the opposing faction inside the party, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has continued to form new party departments and appoint new members to existing ones, apparently in his bid to strengthen his share in the party.

According to a press release by the party’s central office chief secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel on Sunday evening, Deuba appointed chiefs, deputy chiefs, secretaries, and members in 10 departments of the party. Gopal Man Shrestha has been assigned to lead the powerful organisation department.

The main opposition party is scheduled to hold the next general convention–that will also elect the new central working committee of the party–in February next year, and the opposition faction led by Ram Chandra Paudel believes Deuba’s recent appointments are against the sentiment of the party statute as they influence the elections next year. Deuba, however, has not considered the opposition voice so far.
