Nepal, China officials stress implementation of past agreements

Kathmandu, June 20

Officials of Nepal and China have stressed implementation of various agreements signed between the two countries in the past to strengthen the bilateral ties.

During a meeting of the Nepal-China Consultation Mechanism held in Kathmandu today, the officials said various agreements including the Transit and Transport Agreement signed between two governments during the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s visit to China in March 2016 should be implemented without any delay.

During the meeting, the Nepali delegation reiterated its commitment to the Belt and Road Initiative and the One China Policy.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the Chinese delegation expressed its willingness to support Nepal for its economic development.

China’s 11-member delegation was led by Chinese Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kong Xuan You, whereas the 20-member Nepali delegation was led by Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi.

The meeting was held after a hiatus of four years.
