Kathmandu tops Nepal bribery chart, says CIAA

CIAA officials address a press meet in Kathmandu, on Monday, June 12, 2017.

Kathmandu, June 12

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority has said most incidents of bribery take place in Kathmandu among 75 districts of the country.

Sharing the data of arrests of officials involved in bribery in 11 months of the current fiscal year, the anti-corruption constitutional body said 19 officials were arrested from Kathmandu in this period.

Likewise, five officials were arrested from Banke district, which ranks the second on the list.

The Commission says the problem is prevalent in all districts.

Meanwhile, most of the officials caught red-handed while taking kickbacks are from the Department of Survey, according to the Commission.

Of total 76 arrested, 14 were survey officials.

The Land Revenue Department, local government units and the Department of Transport follow the list.

Position-wise, most of such detainees are nayab subbas, the first class non-gazetted officials. Among 76 arrestees, 34 were nayab subbas.
