CIAA files case against investigation officer over fake academic certificate

Kathmandu, November 4

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against Hira Babu Bhattarai, an investigation officer at the National Investigation Department, at the Special Court in Kathmandu.

The case was filed over allegations that Bhattarai submitted fake academic certificates when joining government service and seeking promotions.

A complaint had been lodged against him alleging that the academic certificates he submitted at the time of joining service and for promotions were forged.

According to the CIAA’s charge sheet, an investigation found that the proficiency certificate-level qualification certificate Bhattarai obtained from the Bihar Intermediate Education Council in Patna, India, was fake.

The charge sheet states that Bhattarai secured promotions from assistant inspector to chief investigation officer on the basis of the forged academic qualification.

According to CIAA spokesperson Suresh Neupane, information received from the institution that issued the certificate confirmed that the document submitted by Bhattarai was fake.
