Govt announces list of public holidays for 2077 BS

The Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday has announced the publication of the list of official public holidays in the year 2077 BS that will begin on April 13.

The new year will have delayed Dashain and Tihar holidays due to the occurrence of ‘malamas’ in the month of Asoj, the sixth calendar month, according to Surya Prasad Dhungel, the Secretary of Nepal Panchanga Nirnayak Samiti, the government authority to decide festival dates as per the lunar calendar. A malamas is additional one month in the lunar calendar that appears every three of four years.

For the biggest festival of Nepal, Dashain, there are five days of public holidays from October 23 to 27 starting with Phulpati till Ekadashi, with the Tika day on October 26. Likewise, for Tihar, there are three days of holidays from November 14 to 16, on the days of Laxmi Puja, followed by Mha Puja and Bhaitika, Govardhan Puja and Nepal Sambat New Year.
