Court Grants 2-day extension for Arun Chaudhary’s police remand, rules out further custody

Arun Chaudhary

Kathmandu, February 6

On Monday, the District Court in Kathmandu granted a two-day extension of police remand for businessperson Arun Chaudhary and two accomplices.

The arrests are related to their alleged involvement in the embezzlement of land associated with the Bansbari Leather and Shoes Factory.

The District Court, however, said not to keep Chaudhary in custody after the end of the two-day extension.

Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police arrested Chaudhary and two others on February 1 for illegally transferring around 1.26 acres of land that was originally part of the Bansbari leather shoe factory.

The District Court on February 1 granted permission to hold Arun Chaudhary in custody for four days on charges of encroaching government land.
