Kathmandu, November 16

Nepal has stressed that countries of origins should train their citizens who want to go abroad for jobs.

Inaugurating the sixth ministerial consultation of Colombo Process, a ground of 12 Asian countries that send migrant workers abroad, Deputy Prime Minister Ishwar Pokharel said the countries of origin should extend cooperation for the capacity building of the workers.

He also called on the participating countries to take initiatives ensuring safety of their workers abroad.

In another context, Pokharel also demanded that employers or governments of the employing countries cover all the costs involved in the migration process of the workers.

On the occasion, Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali hoped that the consultation would prepare a concrete plan on how migrating workers could be protected from potential frauds.

As Nepal is the current chair of the group, Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Gokarna Bista is chairing the meeting.

The consultation was preceded by a senior officials’ meeting on Thursday.
