Kathmandu, August 23
The Ministry of Youth, Labour and Employment will hold discussions with 25 Nepali recruitment agencies that have been listed by Malaysia to recruit and send Nepali workers for foreign employment.
The ministry has invited representatives of all 25 agencies for discussions on Monday, according to ministry spokesperson Pitambar Ghimire.
The meeting will be held in the presence of representatives from the Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies, Ghimire said.
The ministry is taking the issue seriously after Malaysia decided to limit recruitment of Nepali workers to 25 agencies listed under its foreign worker recruitment system.
“We have invited them through the association. We need to hear their views with representatives of the association and the 25 recruitment agencies,” Ghimire said.
Malaysia’s Ministry of Human Resources on Saturday, August 22, listed recruitment agencies from 10 labour-sending countries, including Nepal, in its Foreign Worker Centralised Management System (FWCMS).
Only recruitment agencies listed in the system will be allowed to recruit foreign workers for employment in Malaysia under the new arrangement.
Of the agencies listed, 25 are from Nepal and another 25 from Bangladesh. Cambodia has 23 listed agencies, India and Myanmar 10 each, Pakistan 10, the Philippines 435, Sri Lanka 258, Thailand one and Vietnam 91.
Following the publication of the list by Malaysia, Labour Minister Ramji Yadav called Malaysia’s acting ambassador to Nepal for discussions on Saturday.
