Application collection for embossed number plates resumes

Models of embossed number plates

Kathmandu, November 6

The Department of Transport Management says it has resumed collection applications for embossed number plates on vehicles.

The number plates will mention the number of provinces as per the new system.

Once the provinces will be named by respective provincial governments, the names will be added free of cost, according to Department’s spokesperson Tokraj Pandey.

Earlier, the government has begun distributing embossed number plates with the names of erstwhile zones. The move, however, was widely criticised for giving the continuity to the zonal structure. The Department, then, had put the distribution on hold.

The Department will charge Rs 2,900 to install these new machine-readable plates on a three-wheeler whereas installing it on a light four-wheeler will cost Rs 3,200.

The service is not available for two-wheelers in the first phase.

The government had introduced the high-tech registration system in August.
