Vice President for partnership between govt, private sector for hydro development

Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun

Kathmandu, January 18

Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun has asserted that partnership between the government and private sector is essential to develop and promote the energy sector of the country.

Inaugurating the second Himalayan Hydro Expo here today, Pun pointed out the need to reforms at policy level and make the energy policy relevant to the changing times.

Stating that the era of electricity outage in the country had come to an end, Pun affirmed that the country had entered into a new era.

He was of the view that it was time to adopt innovative ideas in the energy sector which, he believed, would contribute towards ending the trade deficit due to import of electricity from India.

The VP explained, “Since import of electricity from India is increasing, it would contribute to trade deficit. It’s imperative to increase investment in the energy sector to curb the trade deficit. We all should also consider reducing the import of petroleum product for the same.”

Underlining the promotion of electric vehicles, he urged the government to focus its policies and programmes accordingly.
