Kathmandu, February 8

The government is preparing to establish a ‘residency commission’ to address problems related to people’s right to reside, claims the Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation.

Padma Aryal says the commission will be a holistic approach to solve all problems of residency and ensure that every citizen enjoys the fundamental right.

Responding to lawmakers’ queries at a meeting of the House of Representatives on Friday afternoon, the Minister said the government was amending key land management laws in order to serve people who have been deprived of their right to reside.

She was hopeful that the ongoing session of Parliament would endorse the amendment and the commission would be established as soon as possible.

She assured that the federal government would coordinate with provincial and local governments to address such problems.
