Monsoon brings traditional herders back to Thakur in Rukum East

Monsoon brings traditional herders and buffaloes back to the scenic meadows of Thakur in Rukum East

Rukum East, June 12

Thakur, located in Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality-5 of Rukum East at an altitude of 4,000 meters above sea level, is exceptionally mesmerising.

Blessed with natural beauty, the vast green meadows of Thakur are currently dotted with herds of buffaloes. With the onset of the monsoon season, herders from the Dhorpatan area have arrived in Thakur with their buffaloes.

Spreading across the lap of dense forests and high Himalayan hills, this meadow serves as a temporary shelter for both the herders and their livestock.

While the influence of modern lifestyles grows elsewhere, these ancestral herders of Dhorpatan have not abandoned their traditions. As a result, the wide meadows of Thakur remain filled with grazing buffaloes.

The serene environment, the daily routine of the herders, and the green hills in the background that cloak Mount Putha combine to create an incomparable view. This scenery offers a glimpse of an ancient, authentic lifestyle alongside breathtaking natural beauty, making the region a major tourist destination in Rukum East.
