Two House committees fall short of quorum to hold meetings

File: A State Affairs Committee meeting

Kathmandu, April 29

International Relations Committee and State Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives could not hold their scheduled meetings as majority of their members could not show up.

The IRC began its meeting to discuss a report prepared by a subcommittee formed to investigate into the dispute between government and Taragaun Regency Hotel over the land ownership. But, only around eight members of 25 member committee showed up, forcing the chairperson Pabitra Niraula Kharel to continue with ‘internal discussions’ only.

Likewise, the SAC could not discuss a report prepared by its subcommittee on the damages caused by a storm in Bara and Parsa districts of southern Nepal last month.

According to undersecretary Babita Mishra, the ‘informal’ meeting, however, decided to discuss the report with all stakeholders next time.

The next meeting has been called for tomorrow.
