Kathmandu, July 11

The government on Tuesday decided to bar trucks, mini-trucks and tippers from the Kathmandu Ring Road during peak hours in every morning and evening from Wednesday.

The decision aims to end lengthy traffic jams in Kathmandu Valley during the rush hours.

A meeting of stakeholders coordinated by the Department of Transport Management today made the decision. The truck and tipper entrepreneurs had also attended the meeting.

From tomorrow, such load-carrying vehicles cannot ply the 29.2-km Ring Road from 8 am to 10:30 am and from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm, informs DoTM spokesperson Tokraj Pandey.

“The most traffic problem occurred along the Ring Road,” he says, “Therefore, we decided to bar trucks, mini-trucks and tippers from the Ring Road during the rush hours.”

Meanwhile, the earlier decision to bar trucks, mini-trucks and tippers from inside the Ring Road from 6 am to 8 pm will continue, the meeting decided.

The vehicles violating the order will be booked by traffic police.
