Traffic police launch crackdown on long-route vehicles without two drivers

File

Kathmandu, February 21

The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) has taken action against drivers of 45 public vehicles plying long routes for flouting the provision of keeping two drivers.

The Police Headquarters, Highway Security and Traffic Directorate had brought into operation the ‘traffic communication app’ from February 10 to monitor whether the public vehicles plying long routes have been following the rule.

Division Chief, SSP Basanta Panta, says the app has been brought into operation to ensure the implementation of the provision made in the Transport Management Act requiring the public passenger vehicles operating on long routes to keep two drivers.

The public vehicles flouting this legal provision would be fined Rs 1,000.

The Directorate had made arrangements to access information on drivers on long routes, the bus number and the departure time through the app.

Traffic police believe that the number of road accidents can be reduced with the operation of the app.
