Nepal’s stock market rose 25.55 points on Monday, the first trading day of the week, with the NEPSE index closing at 2,585.04 points.
The index had gained 27 points in the previous trading session. With Monday’s rise, the market has gained 52 points over the past two trading days.
The recent gains come as Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle prepares to introduce an action plan aimed at improving the stock market. Expectations that the proposed measures could boost investor confidence have contributed to the recent rise in the market.
Trading turnover also increased on Monday. Shares worth Rs 4.68 billion changed hands, compared with Rs 4.35 billion in the previous session.
Of the companies traded, the share prices of 226 companies increased, while 47 declined and two remained unchanged.
All major sectoral indices closed higher. The banking sector rose 0.78%, development banks 0.87%, finance 1.67%, hotels and tourism 0.86%, hydropower 1.16%, investment 0.64%, life insurance 1.45%, manufacturing and processing 0.54%, microfinance 0.78%, non-life insurance 1.50%, others 1.39% and trading 1.38%.
