Sushma Swaraj to meet Oli immediately after her arrival in Kathmandu

Indian Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj waves as she lands in Kathmandu, on Thursday, August 10, 2017.

Kathmandu, February 1

Indian Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj is scheduled to land in Kathmandu on a two-day goodwill visit. Swaraj will begin meetings with various political leaders immediately after her arrival, according to sources.

Swaraj will arrive in Kathmandu at 3 pm today and meet CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli at first, according to a source. The meeting can be significant as Oli, who has largely been portrayed as an anti-Indian leader, is preparing to lead the new government here.

It is likely that the new government will be formed within next three weeks.

Meanwhile, Swaraj will meet Oli’s political partner CPN-Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal today itself. Another meeting has been scheduled with leaders of Madhesh-centric parties.

Information on times and venues of the meetings is not immediately available.

For Friday, three major tasks have been listed for the guest before her departure to New Delhi. The Indian Minister will separately pay courtesy calls on President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba tomorrow. She will also visit the Pashupatinath Temple
