Kathmandu, July 28

Sewage and drinking water pipes are leaking at 22 major points of roads in Kathmandu and they make traffic movement during rainfall chaotic, says the Department of Roads.

The Department says the roads from Sundhara Chok to Bhotahiti, at Jamal, at Narayan Gopal Chok, from Chabahil Chok to Gopikrishna, from Tinkune to Koteshwor, from Thapathali to Maitighar, from Naxal to Bhagawati Bahal, from Gaushala to Jaya Bageshwori, from Putalisadak to Krishna Pauroti, from Kamaladi to Tri-Chandra campus, from Ratopul to Gaushal, at Lainchaur, at Sorkhakhutte and the road near Jaya Nepal Cinema Hall among other places are facing the leakage problem.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has directed the Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited and the Department of Water Supply and Sewage to solve the problem at the earliest.

During a meeting held at the OPMCM today, representatives from the Department of Roads had argued road renovation could take place only after the pipes were maintained, resulting in the new directive.

The meeting was called to follow-up implementation of the Prime Minister’s directive to fix potholes on Kathmandu roads within 15 days.
