Tesla is set to launch its Cybercab robotaxi in Austin, Texas, on September 3, according to Tesla-focused news outlet Teslarati.

Teslarati reported that it had received an invitation to the launch event. Tesla has not publicly confirmed the date.

The event is expected to showcase not only a new vehicle but also Tesla’s purpose-built autonomous driving technology.

The Cybercab is designed without a steering wheel or pedals and is intended to operate almost entirely through autonomous driving software.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has previously said the company plans to sell the Cybercab to private customers for less than $30,000 per vehicle.

First unveiled in October 2024, the Cybercab is a key part of Tesla’s plans to expand into robotaxi services. It is expected to operate alongside Model Y vehicles, which have been used for autonomous passenger rides in real-world conditions for more than a year.

According to technology publication The Information, Tesla initially plans to deploy Cybercab vehicles by offering rides to employees on public roads before integrating them into its commercial robotaxi service.

The launch would mark another step in Tesla’s push into autonomous driving, with robotaxi services expected to become an important part of the company’s future revenue model and artificial intelligence strategy.
