Pokhara international airport: 45% works over

Tourism Minister Yogesh Bhattarai visits Pokhara airport construction site, on Wednesday, August 28, 2019.

Pokhara, August 28

Around 45 per cent works at under-construction Pokhara international airport have been over, informs the project team. The government has set a deadline of July 2021 to complete the project, but the team claims the works will be over at least six months before that.

As Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai visited the construction site on Wednesday morning, the project chief Binesh Munakarmi said the construction works had been expedited to complete the project before the deadline.

In response, minister Bhattarai also encouraged the team to set an example of early completion. “Foreigners have been questioning delays in such projects frequently,” Bhattarai said, “Investors want to complete the construction and earn profits as soon as possible,” he said.

Chinese company CMC is constructing the project. The project’s estimated cost is Rs 21 billion.

This is Bhattarai’s first visit to the ambitious project site after he was appointed the minister around one month ago.
