NRNA proposes ‘international-standard’ public toilets in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, December 20

The Non-Resident Nepalis Association (NRNA) has conducted a study for the construction of ‘international-standard’ and ‘well-equipped’ public toilets in Kathmandu metropolitan city.

The first phase of the study covers Kalanki, Balaju, the area in front of the President’s Office, Jayabageshwori Siphal ground, Koteshwor and Swoyambhu. The next round of study will be carried out by identifying the necessity.

Though Kathmandu Metropolitan City has been in the process of implementing a public toilet construction project for the past five years, no substantive progress has been achieved so far. According to KMC Urban Planning Commission vice-chair Saroj Basnet, a sustainable management aspect has been focused on the public toilet construction project.

The NRNA has proposed to construct a 40 feet long and 16 feet wide toilet. It will have three urinals for women and two receptacles for defecation. Similarly, there will be four toilets for women with sanitary pads. There will be one toilet for persons with disabilities.
