Kathmandu, January 2
Former Nepal Police DIG and newly elected CPN-UML lawmaker Nawaraj Silwal says he is ready to assist police to probe charges of forgery filed against him.
Silwal’s statement comes a day after the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu issued an arrest warrant against him.
The former DIG is accused of forging papers related to his performance appraisal that he submitted to the Supreme Court to claim that he should have been appointed the chief of Nepal Police organisation last year. Silwal had launched multiple legal battles against Nepal Police and the government claiming the top post, but failed. Then, he resigned and joined politics.
After police failed to find him at his Lalitpur-based house today following the arrest warrant, Silwal has informed that he is currently in Malaysia for a scheduled event and he will not run away from the trial.
“I am not absconding and I have not received the arrest warrant. I am always ready to support the investigation,” he says, “Nothing happened when I was in Kathmandu, but when I am abroad for the function, some police officials spread rumours about me.”
Meanwhile, Silwal accused Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and IGP Prakash Aryal of spreading rumours against him in an act of personal vengeance.
